Rumbia takes its name from the sagu rumbia and buah rumbia plants once common in the area, and today it's best known as the closest LRT stop to Rivervale Mall — about three minutes' walk via Exit A. That makes it one of the more genuinely useful East Loop stations for anyone living in Rivervale who wants proper shops and a food court rather than just a ground-floor coffee shop. It's the second stop out from Sengkang on the loop, so it's a short ride either from the interchange or, coming from further round, most of the way through the loop before you're back at Sengkang.
