There is no single network-wide last train. First and last train times are set for each station and each direction — the last train towards one terminus can leave nearly an hour before the last train the other way. If you are cutting it fine, check the first/last train poster at the station or the operator’s app (SMRT Connect, SBS Transit) before you set off.

Service changes right now

DTLDowntown Line: early closing on Friday nights, late opening on Saturdaysuntil 5 September 2026

From 10 July to 5 September 2026 the Downtown Line closes early at 23:30 on Friday nights and opens late at 08:30 on Saturday mornings, so that engineers can connect the new Xilin and Sungei Bedok stations. Allow up to 30 extra minutes for your journey on those nights and mornings.

Nights, peaks and public holidays

After the last train

No night trains, no night buses

The NightRider and Nite Owl night bus services were discontinued and have not been reinstated. Once the MRT stops, a taxi or a ride-hailing app (Grab, Gojek) is the only way home.

Late nights

Extended service on a few nights

Trains run later on New Year’s Eve, Chinese New Year’s Eve, Christmas Eve, Deepavali and Hari Raya. The operators announce the exact times a few days ahead.

Peak hours

Roughly 07:00–09:00 and 18:00–19:30

Trains come every 2 to 3 minutes then, and they are busy. Tap in before 07:45 and you also get 50 cents off your fare.

Every 2–3 min at peak times (about 07:00–09:00 and 18:00–19:30) and every 5–7 min for the rest of the day. The LRT runs every 3–6 min.

Between 10 July and 5 September 2026 the Downtown Line stops at 23:30 on Friday nights and opens at 08:30 on Saturday mornings, so engineers can connect the new Xilin and Sungei Bedok stations. Allow up to 30 extra minutes on those nights and mornings.

On most public holidays the MRT keeps its normal hours. Service is extended on a handful of nights — New Year’s Eve, Chinese New Year’s Eve, Christmas Eve, Deepavali and Hari Raya — and the operators publish the exact times a few days before.
