The DTL at a glance

The Downtown Line (DTL) is one of the six MRT lines in Singapore. It is run by SBS Transit, it has 35 stations over 41.9 km, and it opened on 22 December 2013.

The Downtown Line is the long zig-zag: 41.9 km and 35 stations, entirely underground and entirely driverless, from Bukit Panjang in the north-west, down through Botanic Gardens and Newton, across the city centre at Bugis, Chinatown and Downtown, and then out east through Bedok North to Tampines and Expo. It opened in stages between 2013 and 2017 and it is the line that finally gave the eastern and north-western suburbs a direct route into the business district.

From 10 July to 5 September 2026 the Downtown Line closes early at 23:30 on Friday nights and opens late at 08:30 on Saturday mornings, so that engineers can connect the new Xilin and Sungei Bedok stations. Allow up to 30 extra minutes for your journey on those nights and mornings.

Hume (DT4) is the line’s ghost-station story. The shell was built with the rest of Downtown Line 2 in 2015 and then left dark for ten years while trains rushed past; it finally opened on 28 February 2025. Two more stations, Xilin and Sungei Bedok, are under testing and are due to extend the line in the second half of 2026.
