Jalan Besar station in detail

Jalan Besar station sits under the road of the same name, a strip once known for textile and hardware wholesalers and now increasingly known for cafes and street art alongside the older trades that remain. Jalan Besar Stadium, headquarters of the Football Association of Singapore and a national football venue in continuous use since 1929, is about a ten-minute walk up the road. The station also puts Little India and its historic Masjid Abdul Gaffoor within easy reach, and the Lavender food street is close enough for a short stroll. It opened in October 2017 as part of the Downtown Line's third stage, filling in a stop between Rochor and Bendemeer that had previously meant a longer walk or bus ride for residents of the area.

Facilities at Jalan Besar
Jalan Besar's older shophouses hide some good, inexpensive food that doesn't always show up in guidebooks — it's worth a wander down the side streets rather than sticking to the main road.
