Tiong Bahru MRT station

Tiong Bahru station in detail

Tiong Bahru serves one of Singapore's oldest public housing estates, now known for its Art Deco low-rise blocks, independent bookshops and a wave of hip cafes that opened alongside the original bakeries and provision shops. The station sits a little apart from the estate's most photogenic streets, so most visitors walk 10 minutes or so from the station to reach the cafe cluster around Yong Siak Street. It remains a residential, unhurried stop compared with the interchanges on either side, and the mix of old and new gives the neighbourhood a character quite different from anywhere else on this stretch of the line.

Facilities at Tiong Bahru
The most photogenic Art Deco blocks and cafes are a good 10-minute walk from the station itself, along Tiong Poh Road and Yong Siak Street — worth the walk, but plan for it rather than expecting cafes right outside the exit.
