Thanggam station in detail

Thanggam MRT station in Singapore — Sengkang LRT (SW4)
SW4

Thanggam, whose name means gold in Tamil, is best known for the pedestrian bridge that connects the station concourse over Fernvale Road and on to Lorong Samak, putting the Jalan Kayu food street within a genuine, if not short, walk of five to ten minutes. That makes it one of the more worthwhile detours on the West Loop for anyone chasing prata or the area's other well-known eateries, even though the walk itself passes terrace houses and a church rather than anything scenic. Otherwise it's a fairly standard residential stop, four stops out from Sengkang, serving the HDB blocks that fill this stretch of the loop.

Tip

Use the overhead bridge from the station concourse rather than looking for a street-level route to Jalan Kayu — it spans Fernvale Road directly and continues to Lorong Samak, and it's the route locals actually use.

Thanggam — frequently asked questions

Cross the pedestrian bridge at the station concourse over Fernvale Road toward Lorong Samak; the walk to the food street takes around five to ten minutes, past terrace houses and a small church.

The Sengkang LRT West Loop (SW4), four stops out from Sengkang, between Kupang and Fernvale, best known for its pedestrian bridge across to Jalan Kayu’s food street, a useful detour for food.

It’s one of the better West Loop options for that, thanks to the bridge access to Jalan Kayu’s prata shops and eateries, more of a destination than most neighbouring stations.
