Keppel (CC30), Cantonment (CC31) and Prince Edward Road (CC32) entered service on 12 July 2026, joining HarbourFront to Marina Bay and turning the Circle Line into a true loop after 17 years. Bayfront and Marina Bay have been renumbered CC34 and CC33 — the old CE1 and CE2 codes are gone, so any map still showing a "Marina Bay branch" is out of date.
Getting around Singapore by MRT
The Singapore MRT — Mass Rapid Transit — is the fastest way to get around the island. Six MRT lines and three LRT systems cover 246.6 km and 146 MRT stations, and carry about 3.5 million rides a day. Trains run from roughly 05:30 until midnight, every 2–3 min at peak times.
Paying is simple, and it surprises most visitors: there are no paper tickets. You tap in and out with an EZ-Link or SimplyGo card — or simply with a contactless bank card or your phone — and the system charges a distance-based fare, from S$1.28 to S$2.57. Changing lines costs nothing extra, and tapping in before 07:45 on a weekday takes 50 cents off.
The three LRT systems
The LRT lines are small automated feeders inside the housing towns. They use the same fares and the same card — a trip that starts on the LRT and carries on by MRT is charged as one journey.
Bukit Panjang LRT
13 stations · SMRT Trains · feeds the North South and Downtown lines.

When the MRT runs
From about 05:30 to midnight
First trains leave the termini between 05:00 and 05:30; the last ones between about 23:15 and 00:15, depending on the station and direction.
Every 2–3 min at peak
Off-peak it is every 5–7 min. The LRT runs every 3–6 min.
No night trains — and no night buses
The NightRider and Nite Owl night buses were discontinued and have not come back. After the last train it is a taxi or Grab.
Singapore MRT — frequently asked questions
Fares are distance based. An adult with a card pays from S$1.28 for a short hop up to S$2.57 for the longest journeys, and 50 cents comes off if you tap in before 07:45 on a weekday. Changing lines does not add anything: the fare is worked out once, from the distance of the whole trip.
Yes. Tap any contactless Visa, Mastercard, NETS or Amex card, or Apple Pay / Google Pay / Samsung Pay, straight on the fare gate and you pay the same adult fare as a local. You do not need to buy anything. Just use the same card to tap in and tap out.
No. The standard ticket was phased out in March 2022 and there is no cash fare on the MRT. You need an EZ-Link or SimplyGo card, a contactless bank card or your phone.
Trains run from roughly 05:30 to midnight. Exact first and last train times are set per station and per direction — first trains leave the termini from about 05:00, and the last ones around 23:15 to 00:15. There is no night service.
Yes — since 12 July 2026. Circle Line Stage 6 added Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road and joined HarbourFront back round to Marina Bay. Bayfront is now CC34 and Marina Bay CC33; the old CE1 and CE2 codes are gone, so a map still showing a “Marina Bay branch” is out of date.
Take the MRT from Changi Airport station (CG2, under Terminals 2 and 3) and change at Tanah Merah — the airport trains are a shuttle — then carry on into town on the East West Line. It takes about 40 minutes to City Hall and costs around S$2.30.
Three: Newton (NS21/DT11), Tampines (EW2/DT32) and Bukit Panjang (DT1/BP6). You tap out and tap back in, but as long as the change takes 15 minutes or less it still counts as one journey and you pay one fare.
Yes, throughout. Every station on the MRT and LRT has lifts between street level, concourse and platforms, wide fare gates, tactile guidance and platform screen doors on every platform.
