Tanah Merah station in detail

Tanah Merah is where the East West Line divides: through trains continue west towards the city, while a two-station shuttle branches off to Expo and Changi Airport. Anyone travelling to the airport from town changes here, crossing to the opposite platform to board the shuttle — it is a same-level transfer and usually takes only a couple of minutes. The station itself is fairly residential, with little around it beyond housing and a small commercial strip, so most passengers are either commuters from the surrounding estate or travellers in transit rather than people stopping to visit the area.
