Bedok is the commercial heart of one of Singapore's oldest new towns, and the station sits beside Bedok Mall and the town's large bus interchange, both linked by covered walkways. It is a busy interchange point for buses heading into the surrounding estate and further east towards the airport area, and the mall above the interchange gives it a livelier feel than the smaller residential stations on either side. The area has a strong food scene, from the hawker centre facing the station to the well-known Bedok 85 supper spot nearby.
