East West Line (EWL)
Pasir Ris ↔ Tuas Link · 35 stations · 57.2 km · about 85 minutes end to end
The EWL at a glance
The East West Line (EWL) is one of the six MRT lines in Singapore. It is run by SMRT Trains, it has 35 stations over 57.2 km, and it opened on 12 December 1987.
The East West Line is the longest line on the network: 57.2 km and 35 stations, from Pasir Ris in the east to Tuas Link in the far industrial west, with a two-station branch off Tanah Merah to Changi Airport. Riding it end to end takes about 85 minutes — the longest single ride you can take in Singapore without changing. It opened in December 1987, a month after the North South Line, and it is the line that most visitors meet first, because it is how you get from Changi Airport into the city.

The Changi Airport branch is worked as a shuttle: trains run only between Tanah Merah, Expo and Changi Airport, so if you are coming from town you almost always change at Tanah Merah — cross the platform, it is a same-level transfer. In the mid-2030s this branch is planned to be handed over to the Thomson-East Coast Line, which will run all the way to the airport instead.
