Dakota station in detail

Dakota takes its name from Dakota Crescent, one of Singapore's oldest public housing estates, parts of which have been conserved for their distinctive 1950s architecture — including the much-photographed 'Dove Playground', built in the shape of a flock of birds in flight. The station opened in 2010 a short walk from the estate and from the western end of Old Airport Road, close enough to reach the Old Airport Road Food Centre on foot as an alternative to boarding at Mountbatten. Otherwise the area is quiet and residential, tucked between the Kallang and Geylang districts, with little through traffic beyond commuters and residents.

Facilities at Dakota
Dakota Crescent's Dove Playground is a genuine residential estate, not a museum piece — it's fine to photograph, but keep noise down and be mindful that people live in the blocks around it.

Yes, about a ten-minute walk along Old Airport Road, though Mountbatten station one stop away puts you slightly closer to the main entrance of the food centre.
