Esplanade MRT station

Esplanade station in detail

Esplanade opened in 2010 and takes its name from the performing arts centre a few minutes' walk away, instantly recognisable by the spiked aluminium sunshades that earned it the nickname 'the durian'. The station's concourse links underground to Suntec City and CityLink Mall, so it is possible to walk from the platform to the shops without ever going outside. At street level, Marina Bay's waterfront promenade runs past the Esplanade Theatres and the Helix Bridge towards Marina Bay Sands, though walking the whole way round the bay takes considerably longer than it looks on a map. Esplanade is one stop from Promenade, where the Downtown Line crosses the loop, and two from Bayfront, the interchange for the bay's biggest attractions. Millenia Walk, on the far side of Nicoll Highway, is reachable by a sheltered link bridge.

Facilities at Esplanade
If Marina Bay Sands or Gardens by the Bay is the goal, stay on one more stop to Bayfront rather than walking from here — the waterfront promenade loops around the whole bay and takes over twenty minutes on foot.

Esplanade — frequently asked questions
Only the Circle Line calls here — Esplanade is not an interchange station. The nearest change is Promenade, one stop away, where the Downtown Line crosses the loop.
It’s possible along the waterfront promenade but takes 20 to 25 minutes, since the route loops around the head of the bay rather than cutting across it. Most visitors find it quicker to ride one stop to Bayfront (CC34/DT16) and walk from there instead.
Yes, an underground walkway connects the station concourse directly to Suntec City and CityLink Mall, so it is possible to reach the shops, the convention halls and the link bridge towards Millenia Walk without ever stepping outside.
