Bras Basah station in detail

Bras Basah opened with the first phase of the Circle Line in 2010 and sits in the middle of Singapore's arts and learning district, one stop from City Hall and two from Esplanade. Its platform is among the deepest on the network, built more than thirty metres down to pass beneath the buildings above, and none of its exits stand alone at street level — they open straight into surrounding buildings instead. The Singapore Art Museum, housed in a former Catholic boys' school, is a short walk from Exit A, and Singapore Management University's city campus wraps around the station on two sides. Waterloo Street's cluster of temples and churches and the National Library building are also within easy reach, making Bras Basah one of the more culturally dense corners of the entire MRT network.

Facilities at Bras Basah
Bras Basah's exits lead straight into the Singapore Art Museum, SMU and Bras Basah Complex, so on a wet day you can move between all three without stepping outside — useful given how far below street level the platform actually sits.

Bras Basah — frequently asked questions
Only the Circle Line calls here — it is not an interchange station. The nearest changes are one stop to Promenade for the Downtown Line, or one stop the other way to Dhoby Ghaut for the North South and North East Lines and the Circle Line spur towards Prince Edward Road.
Yes. Lifts connect street level, concourse and platform throughout, and the platform has full-height screen doors along its whole length, in line with every other station on the network.
Take Exit A and walk north along Bras Basah Road; the museum entrance, in a converted former Catholic boys’ school, is about a three-minute walk from the station exit.
