Canberra is the newest station on the North South Line, opened in November 2019 to serve a stretch of Sembawang that had grown faster than the existing stations could cover. An elevated, covered bridge links it directly to Canberra Plaza, a compact shopping mall, and a slightly longer walk brings you to Bukit Canberra, a large integrated sports and wellness hub with a hawker centre, swimming complex and community gardens that has become one of the more popular public facilities in the north. Murals inside the station depict Sembawang's naval history, including the old Beaulieu House, as a nod to the area the station now serves.
