Newton station in detail

Newton is one of Singapore's three out-of-station interchanges, where changing between the North South Line and the Downtown Line means leaving one station and entering the other above ground, rather than transferring within a single paid area. The two station buildings sit on opposite sides of Scotts Road, linked by a short underpass — tap out of one, walk across, and tap in to the other, and as long as it takes 15 minutes or less it is still charged as a single journey. Newton is best known for Newton Food Centre, a large and popular hawker centre a short walk away, along with Newton Circus, the roundabout the neighbourhood takes its name from.

Facilities at Newton
Newton is not a normal same-platform interchange — tap out, cross the short underpass along Scotts Road, and tap in to reach the Downtown Line. Do it within 15 minutes and it is still one fare, but do not treat it as a quick same-building transfer.

Newton — frequently asked questions
Yes, but an unusual one. Newton is one of only three out-of-station interchanges on the network, where the North South Line (NS21) and Downtown Line (DT11) stations are separate buildings linked by a short underpass, not a single connected station.
Tap out of the fare gates on one line, cross the covered underpass under Scotts Road, then tap in to the other line. Completed within 15 minutes, it is charged as a single journey rather than two separate fares.
It is a short, well-signposted walk of about five minutes from the NSL exits, on the same side of Scotts Road as the station. There is no need to cross over to the Downtown Line side to reach it.
