Fort Canning station in detail

Fort Canning takes its name from the hill directly above it, a former royal seat of 14th-century Singapore and later a British colonial fort, now a park criss-crossed with walking trails, event lawns and the ASEAN Sculpture Garden. One exit leads straight up onto Fort Canning Hill; the other goes the opposite way, towards Clarke Quay and Liang Court along the Singapore River, so this one station serves two quite different sides of the city centre — green and historic on one side, riverside dining and nightlife on the other. At 205 metres it is one of the two longest stations on the Downtown Line, a legacy of the tunnelling needed to fit it under the hill and the river valley beside it.
