The Thomson-East Coast Line is the newest MRT line and it is still growing. It runs underground for its whole length, from Woodlands North on the northern edge of the island, down the Thomson corridor through Bright Hill and Caldecott to Orchard and Outram Park, then out along the East Coast through Marine Parade to Bayshore. It opened in stages from January 2020, and the eastern section as far as Bayshore came into service in June 2024.

Woodlands North (TE1) is being built up as the Singapore end of the Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link, the cross-border shuttle to Malaysia due in 2027 — one stop and you are in another country. The line also has two finished stations that have never opened: Mount Pleasant (TE10) and Marina South (TE21). Two more, Bedok South and Sungei Bedok, are under testing and due in the second half of 2026.
