Nicoll Highway station in detail

Nicoll Highway is remembered for one of the worst construction accidents in Singapore's history: in April 2004, a tunnel collapse during the station's construction caused part of the road above to cave in, killing four workers. The station that eventually opened as part of the Circle Line in 2010 sits on rebuilt ground, engineered with the lessons of that collapse built into the design. Today it serves a quieter stretch of the loop between Esplanade and Stadium, close to Kallang Riverside Park and the Kallang River waterfront, with the conserved Golden Mile Complex a short walk across Beach Road. It is one stop from the Singapore Sports Hub, which makes it a useful, less crowded alternative to Stadium station on event nights.

It’s about 15 to 20 minutes further on foot from the Sports Hub than Stadium station, but it can be a useful overflow option when Stadium gets crowded after a big event.
