Stevens station in detail

Stevens is where the Downtown Line meets the Thomson-East Coast Line, an interchange just north of the Orchard Road shopping belt. The area above ground is genteel rather than commercial: colonial black-and-white bungalows around Adam Park and the private estates off Stevens Road surround the station, and Dempsey Hill — the cluster of restaurants, bars and galleries set in a former British army barracks — is roughly a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride up the hill. Singapore Botanic Gardens, with its own Downtown Line station, is just one stop away. Because Stevens sits off to the side of Orchard rather than in the thick of it, it tends to be quieter than the malls further south, which suits the residences and international schools nearby.
Changing lines here is free. You stay inside the paid area and the fare is worked out once, from the distance of your whole journey.

Stevens — frequently asked questions
Yes. Stevens (DT10/TE11) connects the Downtown Line and the Thomson-East Coast Line through a normal paid transfer — no tapping out needed, just follow the signs between platforms.
It’s about a 15-minute walk up the hill, or a short bus ride if you’d rather not walk uphill in the heat. Dempsey Hill’s restaurants, bars and galleries occupy a former British army barracks.
The Downtown Line and the Thomson-East Coast Line both stop here, making it a useful interchange for reaching Orchard Road, Woodlands or the East Coast without doubling back through the city centre.
